This recipe is originally attributed to Rosemary Gladstar, an American herbalist and teacher.
Fire cider is a traditional folk remedy for the cold, flu, and even allergies. This tonic drink will clear your sinuses right out and help to build immunity.
These are just suggested amounts of ingredients. Make it for your own personal taste. You can always dilute your drink or add more of a particular ingredient later as well. You can also get creative and add other medical herbs as you feel inspired though keep in mind you may change the taste in doing so.
Ingredients:
½ cup freshly grated ginger
½ cup freshly grated horseradish (You can use dried or pickled horseradish if you can’t find it fresh)
½ cup freshly grated turmeric (you can use 1 or 2 TBSP dried as well)
10 cloves of garlic, chopped
1 medium to large onion, chopped
2 jalapeño peppers, chopped with seeds removed
1 lemon, juiced. You can throw the whole peel in there chopped as well.
4 Sprigs dried Rosemary
¼ teaspoon cayenne powder
Organic unfiltered apple cider vinegar
¼ cup raw honey or to taste
Instructions:
Combine all of the ingredients in a glass jar. Add enough Apple Cider Vinegar to cover all of your ingredients. Use a plastic lid or put parchment paper or plastic wrap between the glass and the metal lid. Shake Vigorously! Store in a cool, dark place for up to a month. Remember to shake the jar daily or at least frequently. After a month, use a mesh strainer or cheesecloth to strain the solids from the cider. You can use the solids in soups, stir-fries, or as compost.
What to do with your Fire Cider:
Some like to shoot it straight! You can also dilute it with water.
Use it instead of plain vinegar in a home-made salad dressing.
Use it as a marinade for meat of tofu.
Put it in a Bloody Mary, alcoholic or not!
